PROJECT OVERVIEW

Knauf, a global building-materials company, needed a Delhi office that punched above its size. The constraint was unforgiving: 1,100 square feet to house the full life of a working team — front desk, open workstations, formal meeting rooms, a private cabin and a pantry — without any of it feeling cramped or makeshift. Cram a brief that size into a footprint that size and you usually get a warren of small rooms. The client wanted the opposite feeling: openness. The idea that organised everything: make the whole office read as one continuous space, and let the few walls that exist earn their place by doing double duty — separating without closing in. We planned reception, workstation zones and collaborative areas as extensions of one another rather than discrete rooms, so the eye always travels further than the floor plan should allow. Where separation was genuinely needed, we used fluted glass and MDF jaali partitions instead of solid walls — they screen for privacy but pass daylight straight through, so light reaches deep into the plan and the perimeter never feels boxed off. The meeting room and private cabin sit where they can be enclosed without stealing the daylight the open team relies on. Material does the warming. The palette is grounded in warm wood laminate and soft neutrals, then lifted with bold blue accents that signal energy and give the small space a memorable identity. The ceiling is the quiet star: as a building-products company, Knauf's office had to be a showcase, so we used an extensive Armstrong ceiling system — wood-look, metal baffle, open-cell and acoustic canopies — both to demonstrate the product range and to absorb sound so a tight, open floor never gets noisy. Delivered in four months, the office turns its biggest liability — size — into its character: compact, cohesive, daylit, and unmistakably its own.
